Tiffendell Ski resort is the highest mountain in the Cape of Good Hope which is located in the southern part of Drakensberg Mountains which is the highest mountain range in South Africa. In the language of the Zulu, it is called the UKhahlamba or Barrier of Spears. The elevation of this mountain is 3,482 metres (11,420 ft).
This area has the world’s second highest waterfall, Thukela Falls which has a total drop of 947 metres. The snow in winter over these mountains makes it a winter wonderland. Tiffendell Ski resort is a place to enjoy during the summer as well as in winter. The resort faces the south which helps keep the snow longer on the mountain and allows the skier to enjoy the season.
Tiffendell Ski resort has ski and snowboard classes. The beginner trail is only 60 metres long. Private, Intermediate and advanced lessons are also available. The main slope is one km long and skiers may go off-piste for up to 1.5 km.
Snowmaking covers about 1 km of ski run during the 3 months when snow is available. There are plans to get a more powerful snowmaking system. Ski rental facilities include carving skis.
The capacity of the slopes is about 300 skiers per day. The main lodge accommodated 188 guests in centrally heated rooms very close to the slopes. The rooms range from simple hostel-type multi-bed hostels to luxury private chalets. Après-ski events include snowy cocktails, flame torch ski demos and drinks at the pub.
Activities in Tiffendell Ski resort include skiing, snowboarding, jumping, slalom, mountain biking, hiking, grass skiing and upside down skiing.
