Revelstoke ski resort, Canada

ski hotels

Revelstoke Resort is well known for its amazing helicopter and cat skiing. The perfect powder, diverse alpine topography and the 500,000 acres of breathtaking landscape makes visitors return to this resort again. With over fifty feet of snowfall annually, this is a favorite for skiers from US and Canada and this resort can be reached by car via the TransCanada Hwy from Calgary International Airport or Vancouver International Airport.

Revelstoke ski resort, Canada

The top elevation is 2,225 meters with a vertical of 1.713 meters (5,620 ft).  The summit of Mt. Mackenzie is at 2.466 meters (8,058 ft). The spectacular terrain is shared by 7% beginner, 45.5% Intermediate, 47.5 Intermediate skiers. There are a total of 52 runs, the longest of which is 15.2 km.

There are 13 areas of Gladed terrain, 5 bowls which include 2 in-bounds and 3 in cat ski terrain. Lifts include 8-passenger Gondola, 2 of the 4-passenger high speed chairlifts and the magic carpet called “Little Bit”.

This ski resort is one among the few which opens in November. It usually closes in mid April. The average annual snowfall is 12 – 18 meters (40 – 60 ft).

The Subaru Free-skiing Championships were held here with the athletes heli-dropped into the summit of Mt. Mackenzie.

Revelstoke ski resort, Canada

Revelstoke Mountain Resort, or RMR, is a fairly new resort and only offers three ski lifts so far, with another one planned for installation in the near future. However it's not the ski runs that this resort is well known for. The mountain feels like a giant terrain park with jibs, glades, cliff drops and easily accessed backcountry skiing all over the mountain. The actual ski runs are fairly steep and beginner skiers and snowboarders might be intimidated by the big feel of the mountain. RMR gets lots of great powder. I've had a chance to ride this mountain many times and on big powder days there is no better place to be. The Back 40 and Clyde's Secret Glades are fun and challenging.

Do the 20 minute hike to the sub-peak and either ride the south side back onto the ski runs or towards the cat-ski area, or head into the Greely Bowl towards the North Bowl ski area. RMR boasts the highest vertical in North America, though if the conditions aren't cold enough at the bottom you can only ride the top 3/4 of the mountain. There is only one hotel and one restaurant at the resort right now, though it's only a 10 minute drive into the town of Revelstoke. There's also a handy ski shuttle that runs until 11pm. You can go heli skiing and cat skiing right from the resort as well. This is a great hill for real adventure seekers and experienced skiers. On clear days you feel like you're on top of the world!
