Nakiska Ski resort, Canada

About 83 km (52 miles) from Calgary, Nakiska Mountain is a family friendly resort that is easily reachable by car or bus in less than an hour from the airport.  The 1988 Calgary Olympic Alpine events were conducted here and this is now an official Alpine Canada “Alpin” National Training Centre.

In addition to Olympic length runs that have been groomed to perfection, Nakiska boasts of the only new Glade Skiing system in the Banff Rockies. The resort has a vertical of 779 meters (2,555 ft) with three high speed Quads chairs, 1 Double chair and 2 magic carpets to transport 8,830 skiers per hour.

Snow season is from early November to mid-April and snowmaking is extensive – about 95%. There are 64 trails with a ratio of 16% Beginner, 70% Intermediate and 14% Advanced. The entire skiable area includes 1021 acres of terrain with an annual snowfall of 250 cm (8.3 ft). The facilities and lifts are usually open from 9:00AM until 4PM for the regular season.

This Ski area offers several types of lessons for children, adults and seniors at the Telus Winter Sports School affiliated with this resort.

Other varieties of recreation include dining and enjoying the area or taking part in the various events such as Speed Camps, Olympic Torch relay, Ladies Day Ski Trip, Masters Alberta Finals, K2 Jay Cup and GMC Canadian Championships.
