Located on Lake Gilman, Chibougamau is the largest community in northern Quebec. Mont Chalco is a small ski area located in Chibougamau town with over 29 km (18 miles) of cross-country ski trails.
A family resort, Mont Chalco has more than 11 slopes from which, five are offered for night skiing too. The terrain is rated Beginners – 27%, Intermediate – 27%, Advanced – 27% and Expert – 19%.
Mont Chalco has a Triple chair lift and 1 surface lift giving it an uphill capacity of 1500 people per hour. There is also a tube run and a snowshoe trail in this ski area. This ski area is closed on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
The vertical here is 290 ft (88 meters). The season starts in mid December and ends in early April. The average annual snowfall is around 100 ft (254 cm).
Excluding the 29 km of cross-country trails, Mont Chalco has 7.5 km of Hiking trails, 29 km of Mountain Biking facilities and 6 km of snowshoe trails.
