Llaima Volcano is one of the most active in Chile at 3125 metres and yet offers a classical ski descent amid dramatic and stunning scenery. One of the nearest resorts is Las Arucarias where lifts run to the slopes on the volcano. Alternatively a centre, accessed by travelling through Vilcún to Cherquenco and then up a track to the Volcano base itself has three lifts enabling the faces of the volcano to be skied.
Ski mountaineering is also popular here. Accommodation is in Las Arucarias and the slopes here are for experienced skiers.
