Located in the Gangwon (Kangwon) Province in the Taebaek Mountain ranges, South Korea, Alps ski resort got its name because it was built to encourage visitors so that they would enjoy the Alps-like atmosphere here with European style buildings and other European sights.
International visitors arrive at the Seoul International Airport and then take a taxi or tour bus to the Alps Resort. Reasonable accommodations may be made in nearby lodges through the tourist information booths at the airport. Internal visitors may use the free shuttle bus service at the Ganseong Express Bus Terminal to get to the Alps Resort.
This ski area is located on the plateau of Jinburyeong which is a region with very heavy snowfall. There are 8 trails here rated Beginners – 12.5%, Intermediate – 50% and Advanced – 37.5%. This ski area offers rental facilities for ski equipment such as snowboards. Night time skiing is also offered here until 10PM. There are five lifts in this ski area which transport skiers uphill.
The ski season here starts from middle on November to the beginning of April. The operating hours are from 9 AM to 10 PM. This resort is open all year.
Activities here include mountain climbing, snow sleighing, bowling and skiing. During summer, this resort offers golf, grass sleigh rides, paintball, table tennis, disco, banquet hall, basketball court and rafting. Mount Seoraksan, the Eastern Sea shores and the Donghae Oceanside activities are also popular in the summertime. Korea’s only Ski Museum is also located in the resort.
