Sudelfeld ski resort, Germany

ski hotels

Sudelfeld is one of those hidden gems that travel writers talk about all too frequently, spend a week here with your family and you wouldn’t want to give the secret away. The mountain contains the villages of Bayrischzell, Unteres Sudelfeld, Grafenherberg and Rossengasse, with accommodation and eating possibilities in all four. It’s located on the edge of the Bavarian Alps, close to the Austrian border and claims to be Germany’s largest interconnected ski area.

There is enough skiing to keep most families occupied for a week with 16 lifts that cover terrain from 1090 to 1560 meters. There are some great cruising reds and blues, along with a couple of long challenging blacks that total 31 kilometres. The resort also boasts a children’s area, a terrain park and a grand total of 11 après-ski places – ranging from cosy Tyrolean lodges to lively discos! For such a child-friendly resort it is a shame that there are so many surface drag lifts. The area also has 64 kilometres of cross country trails. Access is relatively easy through Munich airport which is roughly 100 kilometres away and there is excellent motorway or train connections to the area.
