Monte Cristallo ski resort, eastern Dolomites, Italy

ski hotels

Regularly voted one of the most picturesque mountains in the world, Monte Cristallo was also where the bad boy of slalom, Alberto Tomba homed his skills (on the slopes and not in the bars!). The mountain is also home to the stunning resort of Cortina D'Ampezzo and its location on the eastern Dolomites, means that it is also popular with Venetians and serviced by their airport.

The spectacular sunsets that light the mountain up in a haunting pink; have been the subject of countless photographs.

The mountain at 3221 meters is more famed for its climbing that it’s skiing, although there is great wide open skiing on well-groomed pistes, off-piste opportunities and a great cruising green all the way down to Cortina D'Ampezzo at 1224 meters. There is a new four-seater chairlift and snowmaking facilities which ensure snow cover from November to April and the slopes are regularly used by National Teams for training and by FIS for World Cup races. The most important fact however is that Cortina D'Ampezzo is home to the world's only Co-op with marble floors.
