Nordic skiing in Jamtland is wide and varied, with almost every village having its own floodlight track. With the giant ski resort of Åre often dominating the headlines, Nordic skiing is often not as widely publicied as downhill, but that is not to say that there are some great resorts here. The most famous is Vålådalen, where national teams from around the globe come to train and the quality of their trails is in a class of its own. The capital of Jamtland, Östersund also has a large biathlon stadium that held the world championships in 2008. Järpen has some interesting tracks that are very well prepared and often have early snow due to the skiing high school there, which needs to get in some early season training.

Away from the prepared tracks and out in the wilderness, you are best off heading up to Åre and the Ullådalen area. When the sun is out, the place becomes like a Spanish beach, with families camping out and lighting fires. The best waffles in the world are also served at Lillåstugen, where they come with jam home-made from hand-picked cloudberries. Back in Åre, Björnen has the best tracks and the best shop and service workshop. There are also possibilities to rent equipment and have lessons
