El Pas de la Casa ski resort, Andorra

ski hotels

With its 11 lifts and 14 slopes El Pas de la Casa was the biggest ski area and highest lift-served terrain in Andorra, however thanks to its connecting lifts with Soldeu it now forms the even bigger Grandvalira resort. Literally "the pass of the house", the town marks the watershed of the Pyrenees and at an elevation of 2408 m, is one of the highest points on the European road network, El Pas de la Casa just sits on the French border.

Due to its duty free status is popular with people that like, shall we say, “refreshments” and the resort saw enormous growth during the eighties. The local hotel entrepreneurs struggled to keep up with demand and consequently build some monstrosities, however this is also reflected in the price of accommodation with some real bargains to be had. The resort’s height and the heavy investment in snowmaking machinery have improved the area’s snow reliability record considerably.

Nightlife and après-ski is second to none, with even the hardiest of revelers failing to get round all the bars and discos on offer. There is something for everyone both in the village and on the slopes, with a great mixture of pistes, terrain parks and half-pipes.
